My adventure to Canada began in 1997 when a close friend of mine had prodded me to apply for immigration. My only experience of Canada was a visit to Niagara Falls when I was a teenager. The idea piqued my interest as I had recently got married and was starting a family. Free education and the prospect for a better future for my family motivated me to fill up theĀ forms, gather all the requirements, and finally submit my application for immigration in 1998.
The two years of waiting for the approval of our application was a lesson in patience and trust. Our lives were put on hold, as we knew that it would just be a matter of time before we moved to a new home.
On June 1, 2001, we finally packed our bags, and said goodbye to family and friends. We had hope in our hearts and two Filipino friends who would help us when we arrive in Toronto.
And this was the start of the real adventure. All the months of planning had not prepared us for the events that would unfold during our first few weeks in Canada.
