About Canada Pinoys

My Canada Story

My adventure to Canada began in 1997 when a close friend of mine had prodded me to apply for immigration. My only experience of Canada was a visit to Niagara Falls when I was a teenager. The idea piqued my interest as I had recently got married and was starting a family. Free education and the prospect for a better future for my family motivated me to fill up the forms, gather all the requirements, and finally submit my application for immigration in 1998.

The two years of waiting for the approval of our application was a lesson in patience and trust. Our lives were put on hold, as we knew that it would just be a matter of time before we moved to a new home.

On June 1, 2001, we finally packed our bags, and said goodbye to family and friends. We had hope in our hearts and two Filipino friends who would help us when we arrive in Toronto.

And this was the start of the real adventure. All the months of planning had not prepared us for the events that would unfold during our first few weeks in Canada.

About the Webmaster

Hi. My name is David. I am the webmaster for Canada Pinoys.

I am a Filipino-Canadian. I was born in Manila. I went to school and worked for the first part of my career in the Philippines. I migrated to Canada in 2001, together with my wife and 3 children.

I've had an opportunity to travel to many countries including the USA, France, Switzerland, Japan and a number of asian countries prior to moving to Canada. Traveling to other countries allowed me to experience other cultures, and helped me adjust to Canada. However, uprooting my family to move and live in another country was a different experience altogether.

I took on this effort to become the webmaster for Canada Pinoys because I believe I can help fellow Filipinos prepare for a smoother transition into Canada. My family has lived through the challenges of starting from scratch in a foreign country. Many friends and relatives who we first met or did not know lived in Canada helped us tremendously during our first year. I am grateful for the help we received, and I would like to do the same.
